An older human, approximately middle-aged, with a shaven head and peircing storm grey eyes. Malleus rarely takes off his armor, which is pitted and scarred, but still very serviceable. Underneath the scuffing you can see what might have once been a holy symbol of Bahamut. He carries a large warhammer and a large reinforced shield, which also bears the sign of long usage. He also usually wears an arming cap to protect his head from the sun, though his face is weather-beaten. He also carries with him the only item he could recover of Kiera; a shoddy remnant of a pink hair ribbon.
Malleus is grim and unforgiving, and wary of anyone who shows outward signs of religious bearing. His stern glare is piercing, and you feel as if all of your darkest secrets are laid bare to him. It is difficult to make friends with him, but he has a sense of honor that leads him to protect his allies with a vigor rarely seen. You can tell, however, that beneath his gruff and unrelenting exterior, is a sense of longing, a sense of a desperation that affects his decisions and directs his actions.
Malleus Sturn was a young and faithful paladin in the service of the Dragon-God Bahamut. He was a successful young man, marked by his superiors for a great destiny. To add to his happiness, when he was twenty-two, his young half-elven wife Keyleth gave birth to a daughter, christened Kiera Lynn Sturn, in celebration of her dual heritage (‘Kiera’ being an elven name, ‘Lynn’ a human one).
Malleus and his family remained happy in the services of the Temple of Bahamut, until in one fateful Autumn day six years after Kiera’s birth, a bandit force, led by the firece Warlord Zsinj, attacked the township of [[INSERT TOWN #1 NAME HERE]]. The paladins of Bahamut and the guards of [[INSERT TOWN NAME #1 HERE]] rode out to meet the enemy in defense of their homes. After a long, but ultimately successful battle, the combatants came home to find that their foes were merely a distraction; a secondary force had flanked the town in secret, and had sacked [[INSERT TOWN NAME #1 HERE]] and the Monastery. Despite his allegiance to the Monastery, Malleus’ primary reaction was to ride home at all speed to check on his wife and young daughter. He arrived to find a burned out shell of a house, with his family nowhere in sight. As he attempted to enter his once-comely homestead, his comrade-in-arms Ander Quin emerged from within, begging Malleus to forego entrance. Malleus pushed aside his friend, and fell to the charred floor in utmost grievance to discover the body of Keyleth, burned, battered, and broken, lying atop the rubble. His daughter was nowhere to be found. It took three guardsman to drag the wailing Malleus back to the Monastery, where he mourned for almost a month.
Ander, continuing his thrice-daily checkups on his friend, discovered the door ajar, and Malleus nowhere to be found. A search party rode out, and found Malleus trudging home, armor and warhammer gory, his footsteps trailing viscera, the grisly severed head of one of Zsinj’s lieutenants in his hand. Ander and the search party were aghast; Malleus simply looked at them once, hung his head, and continued his strained and wounded march back home.
The Council of Sages, the governing body of the Monastery and [[INSERT TOWN NAME #1 HERE]], were outraged. That a Paladin of Bahamut, a Holy Warrior of the Dragon-God, could do such a horrid act, was beyond even their darkest imaginations. Almost they exiled the poor suffering man, but Ander convinced them to lessen his sentence. Thus they proscribed a period of penance not to be less than five years, after which he would be allowed to return to Bahamut’s service. Malleus could do nothing but accept, his apathy for life showing no bounds as his friends and allies returned him to his chambers.
Malleus grew increasingly distraught with his plight as the weeks wore on. Why weren’t the Paladins doing something about the raider scum? Why were they punishing him for what he believed to be a righteous retribution? But foremost of the questions torrenting through his mind, was the location of his daughter. Where was she, and who held her captive? Was she even still alive? How could he find out trapped here in what used to be his home?
Thus Malleus made his damning descision. In the name of finding his daughter and avenging his wife’s death, he decided to leave the Order and abandon his faith. Deep in the night, Malleus gathered his gear and what little money he had, and stole out of the Monastery, leaving behind all that he knew and loved since his birth. He “aquired” one of the Monastery’s chargers, and rode off into the night, travelling towards [[INSERT TOWN NAME #2 HERE]], the nearest large city, where he began to search for clues as to Zsinj’s location and plots, as well as to his daughter’s location, assuming she was still among the living.
He traveled in this manner for five years, taking odd jobs as he could to fuel his journey. He found precious little clues reguarding his daughter or Zsinj, and soon fell into a deep despair. Finally succumbing to his depression and hopeless situation, he finally settled in [[INSERT TOWN NAME #3 HERE]], a [[INSERT SIZE HERE]]-sized town, where he picked up work as a stable-hand by day and a tavern-guard/bouncer by night. His quest soon moved to the back of his mind, and for six years, he lived as a lonely, saddened man, devoid of hope.
Eventually [[INSERT TOWN NAME HERE]] [[INSERT POLICE-TYPE AUTHORITY HERE]], [[INSERT NAME OF AUTHORITY HERE]], [[INSERT HOOK QUEST HERE]] A party of adventurer’s soon arrived, and upon seeing them, a thought sprang to his mind, and for the first time in almost eleven years, a spark of hope sprang to life. Perhaps these adventurer’s had heard of his daughter Kiera, or of the Warlord Zsinj?
So, with renewed vigor, he walks towards the motley collection of [[INSERT DESCRIPTION OF PARTY HERE]]...
